QUEENS, NY, August 31, 2016  –

Whew, that was easy! 1-seed Novak Djokovic (SRB) advanced to the Third Round without playing a single game today. His opponent withdrew due to  an arm injury.

Other Second Round winners: 2-seed Angelique Kerber (GER); 7-seed Roberta Vinci (ITA); 7-seed Marin Cilic (CRO); 9-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA);  10-seed Gael Monfils (FRA); 12-seed Dominika Cibulkova (SVK); 13-seed Johanna Konta (GBR); 14-seed Petra Kvitova (CZE); and 20-seed John Isner (USA).

As for the two biggest shockers: Qualifier Ryan Harrison (USA) dispatched 5-seed Milos Raonic (CAN) in straight sets; and, in the Evening Session, Anastasija Sevastova stunned 3-seed Garbine Muguruza (ESP) 7-5, 6-4.

Other upsets: Unseeded Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) upended 9-seed Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS); unseeded Nicolas Almagro (ESP) defeated 18-seed Pablo Cuevas (URU); and an unseeded Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) took down 32-seed Benoit Paire (FRA).
