US Open Diary – Day 5 Highlights – Working For The Weekend – 2016

QUEENS, NY, September 2, 2016  –

Man, talk about easy work!

On Wednesday, 1-seed Novak Djokovic didn’t have to play his Round Two match because his opponent was injured and withdrew from the contest.

Today, Djokovic’s Round Three win against Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) was almost just as easy. Youzhny retired after only six games in the first set.

Djokovic now moves to the Round of 16 — and he’s hardly broken a sweat!

Who else is advancing to that round?

  • 2-seed Angelique Kerber (GER);
  • 4-seed Rafael Nadal (ESP);
  • 7-seed Roberta Vinci (ITA);
  • 8-seed Madison Keys (USA, pictured above);
  • 9-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA, beat 23-seed Kevin Anderson);
  • 10-seed Gael Monfils (FRA);
  • 13-seed Johanna Konta (GBR, beat 24-seed Belinda Bencic);
  • 14-seed Petra Kvitova (CZE);
  • 26-seed Jack Sock (USA, beat 7-seed Marin Cilic);
  • Unseeded Caroline Wozniacki (DEN);
  • Unseeded Kyle Edmund (GBR, beat 20-seed John Isner);
  • Unseeded Lesia Tsurenko (UKR, beat 12-seed Dominika Cibulkova); and
  • Unseeded Marcos Baghdatis (CYP, beat qualifier Ryan Harrison).
