This week, Clara speaks with Italian fashion designer Domenico Vacca, who has been a key player in the industry since he launched his brand 2002. His designs combine the best of Italian craftsmanship, superb fabrics, and an impeccable fit with a contemporary Italian cut, the Domenico Vacca label is known as the “Ferrari of clothing.”
His line is a favorite of celebrities including Daniel Day Lewis, Terrence Howard, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman Scarlett Johansson, Lebron James and is often featured on TV and film designing suits characters including Entourage’s Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven).
This Fall 2015, Domenico Vacca will launch his new flagship boutique on Fifth Avenue, which will boast two floors of shopping. The location on 55th Street will include a members-only DV Club, a rooftop lounge, cafe, barber shop, hair salon and 35 long- term furnished residential units that he will design all totaling 12 stories.

1. If you could meet anyone in the world, who do you want to meet? And why?
Pope Francis, so he can touch my soul.
2. Who influences your personal style? What about them piques your interest?
My father Michele Vacca, the most elegant man I have… had ever met in my life… unfortunately he is no longer with us but his sense of style and elegance lives in every single one of my menswear collections.
3. What should women wear more of and why?
High heels and … high heels… because any woman looks amazing in high heels!
4. Favorite fragrance and cologne for women?
My first Domenico Vacca fragrance for women launching in 30 days!!!
5. Proudest career moment?
My first women’s fashion show in New York during New York Fashion Week, among many others.
6. If you weren’t a designer what would you be and why?
Actor, director and producer… I love to communicate with a wide audience and to bring the attention of people either on subjects that matter or touch them in a positive way, by the way …I am producing a movie at the present time.
7. Best dining experience you’ve ever had?
In Italy, in the Puglia region, near the town of Ostuni in a restaurant called Il Frantoio in a 500-year-old farmhouse eating outside under the stars food made with local ingredients recreating 200-year-old recipes… a magical experience.
8. Favorite vacation spot and hotel?
There are so many of them. I just had an amazing vacation in Capri, Italy and another amazing vacation in Puglia and Sardinia as well this past summer. As far as hotels, I love the Rosewood Hotel in Mayakoba, Mexico.
9. Three items that can always be found in your briefcase?
I do not carry a briefcase but I always carry my phone, my wallet and a cigar with me.
10. What song can you listen to on repeat?
Last time I did that the song was Se Telefonando (if calling you) by Italian singer Mina… Italian music at its best.
