Dearest Everybody – Six Crucial Questions for Singer Inara George

***

As far as singers go, Inara George is one of the best.  Her voice is that perfect blend of sweet and real.

Many of you may already be familiar with her talents, whether it’s with her band the Bird and the Bee, singing solo, or working alongside Foo Fighters, Ben Folds, Jason Mraz, Superfruit, or Van Dyke Parks.

Inara’s next album, Dearest Everybody, debuts on January 18.

It’s a welcome add to your playlist — poppy, but poignant, like a candy cane in a cup of hot cocoa, a perfect pick-me-up on a winter day.

SIX CRUCIAL QUESTIONS FOR…

***

NAME: Inara George

AGE (if you want to give it up): 43

BAND: as myself and/or part of the Bird and the Bee

POSITION: Maker of music

HOMETOWN: LA

***

1. What is your earliest musical memory?

Having my mother sing me to sleep.

***

2. What has been your most embarrassing musical moment?

My first band… which doesn’t embarrass me now, but it did for years.

***

3. What do you like and dislike about touring?

I love how the road is its own little world.  I sometimes feel kind of like I’m a part of a pack of animals roaming around.  And  I love playing music every night.  But it’s also lonely and tiring and that little world gets really small.

4. What is your favorite record store, anywhere in the world?

Tower Records in Tokyo is pretty incredible.  That one has kind of kept the modern world at bay.

***

5. Other than your own music, what is your favorite song or album of all-time? Why?

Do people actually answer that question with their own music??

My favorite record of all time? That is so hard.    I feel like the only way to answer that is to list my favorite record of my childhood.  Those are the records that sort of take up the most space in my heart.  That’s when I really devoured music.  And I’d have say Prince’s “Around the World in a Day.”

6. You wake up in a seedy Berlin hotel room with no recollection of the past 96 hours. Who is your first call?

God that sounds horrible.  Probably my husband, I hope!
