The region in Provence is one for the romantics in all of us – lavender fields, pastis, and outdoor antique markets. One village that stands out for us is the pretty Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Located just 20 km south of Avignon, the town imbues Provençal style . The boulevards are lined with plane trees and beautiful stone-wall homes adorned with baby blue shutters. And when specialty food boutiques got the best of us, we found a shady corner to watch an afternoon game of pétanque, played in cinematic flair by the elders of the community. Village life is good in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The town also has an illustrious past – Vincent van Gogh painted the Starry Night, while living at a psych center.
Getting There: Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is best reached by car from Avignon, which is a direct flight and high speed train ride away from Paris.
