Kitty Kat Fan Club – Six Crucial Questions for Singer Casey Jones

***

Comprised of players from Skankin’ Pickle, Just Friends, Hard Girls, and Stickup Kid, Kitty Kat Fan Club (KKFC) is a dreamy little local supergroup from San Jose, CA.

The bands’ twee pop punk tunes are cheery and breezy, a nice fit for the start of summer.

You can hear KKFC’s full-length debut, Dreamy Little You, when it drops on May 31st.

As an added bonus, five percent of album sales will go to cat and dog rescue groups (they are Kitty Kat Fan Club after all), while the band’s label, Asian Man Records, also pledges five percent of all profits each year to various social justice groups, including No Mas Muertes, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Legal Aid Justice.

Below, we talk with one of the band’s two lead singers, Casey Jones, and learn more about her, including the ups and downs of touring, as well as the power of Wilco’s Summerteeth.

1. What is your earliest musical memory?

I took piano lessons for years when I was younger, but refused to learn how to read music. I remember putting Lisa Frank stickers on the keys to know which ones to play.

***

2. What has been your most embarrassing musical moment?

When I was in high school and just starting out, I used to forget the words to my own songs all the time. One time I even cried. Yikes.

3. What do you like and dislike about touring?

I love that I get to travel to cities I’ve never been. I enjoy trying foods from each city. I don’t love how we barely get 24 hours in each of them! It’s quite sad to be in Chicago for basically 12 hours and see nothing other than the skyline and a hot dog in Wrigleyville.

4. What is your favorite record store, anywhere in the world?

Honestly, I don’t know. I’m just going to say a place called Independent Records in Colorado Springs because that leads into Question 5.

5. Other than your own music, what is your favorite song or album of all-time? Why?

When I was 14, a guy I had a crush on bought me Wilco’s Summerteeth (at Independent Records) and I listened to it on my Disc-man over and over until the CD was so scratched I bought a new copy. It’s a great album.

6. You wake up in a seedy Berlin hotel room with no recollection of the past 96 hours. Who is your first call?

Mom!!!!
