Love Vs Logic – Six Crucial Questions for Gold Casio

***

We like dance music, and we like that Gold Casio is different kind of dance band.

As Gold Casio’s bio states: “Conceived inside the carved-out belly of a 19th-century church in Portland, Oregon, Gold Casio is a colorful vision of irreverence, glamour and mystical devotion to the unholy deities of electro-funk and indietronica.”

We’re big fans of the band, and promote them in our shopping catalogues whenever we get the chance. On sale last season: Sinners, Gold Casio’s latest EP, which includes one of our faves “Love vs. Logic.”

Below, the four members of the band responded to one or more of our Six Crucial Questions.

3. What do you like and dislike about touring?Brock Vesvius CassianNAME: Brock Vesvius Cassian

BAND: Gold Casio

POSITION: Production, Keyboards, Spiritual Support

HOMETOWN: Golden, CO

ANSWER:

What I like?

The adventure of the road.  The sun rising over the California horizon as you cruise down the 5. New cities and new friends every night.  Plenty of time to read. Subjecting everyone in the band to E40’s “Choices” at least 50 times over the course of a couple weeks while they’re stuck in a confined space. Truck stop corn dogs.

What I dislike?

Coming home. Trying to get sleep in the van. Truck stop corn dogs.

5. Other than your own music, what is your favorite song or album of all-time? Why? Julius CassianNAME: Julius Cassian

POSITION: Vocals, Guitar, Squiggles, Etc.

HOMETOWN: Golden, CO

ANSWER:

Kinda feels impossible to narrow it down but at the moment I’m gonna roll with Revolver by the Beatles. It’s got a perfect blend of live musicianship and studio wizardry. It has songs about death and loneliness but also inside jokes, tape loops, and a sense of lightheartedness. It’s pop but it isn’t forced. It’s concise but its depth and influence can’t be overstated.

6. You wake up in a seedy Berlin hotel room with no recollection of the past 96 hours. Who is your first call?Brock Vesvius CassianNAME: Brock Vesvius Cassian

BAND: Gold Casio

POSITION: Production, Keyboards, Spiritual Support

HOMETOWN: Golden, CO

ANSWER:

I reach for the phone and dial Brian Eno.  He arrives on his cyborg pterodactyl with the ghost of David Bowie in tow.  They inform me that Gold Aliens have replaced my kidneys with artificial organs that now allow to read minds but only when the subject is thinking about soup.  The Berlin hotel room is no hotel room at all but an elaborate set in the passenger compartment of a dirigible currently floating above Antarctica.  I grab my parachute and head towards the surface.
