Of All The Places Been – Six Crucial Questions for Kramies Windt

***

Kramies – AKA Kramies Windt – is known in some very smart circles as an “American dream-pop troubadour.”

The musician’s latest travels took him in Ireland, where he stayed in a castle and came up with ideas for his latest EP “Of All The Places Been & Everything The End.”

The six songs are dreamy, folksy and proggy  – but if you listen closely you’ll detect the heartbeat of some good indie rock.

This is a praiseworthy effort, and perfect for listening on autumn days and nights – so perfect we’ve included the EP in our Fall Catalogue.

1. What is your earliest musical memory?

I was very little. I remember getting dressed up and going with my mother to a very large beautiful theater. The lights grew dim and this hauntingly beautiful song started.. It was Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” I was enchanted by that as a young seven year old child. The sound of the beautiful celesta playing just made all the emotions surface for me. To this day it’s one of my favorite moments in my life for me.

2. What has been your most embarrassing musical moment?

Ha! Well… every time I finish recording these days I feel a bit embarrassed or maybe that’s anxious. I don’t know. I would say… well, this isn’t recent, but when I was a little kid I had to sing in choir. I would actually never sing. I disliked the songs and the feeling of singing with other people and I hated being told what to do. So I wasn’t a great choir boy. At the end of the school year there was an award ceremony. They called me up to the stage and ironically gave me the “least likely to sing” award. Odd joke to do to a kid I guess, but everyone laughed and there was an actual award they made for me which I still have.  So… I was embarrassed for sure but not so much now 😉

3. What do you like and dislike about touring?

I used to dislike when it was bunch of people and noise in a van, all the time. You can’t escape it.

Now I love when it’s just a few shows in a new place I’ve never been too. And it’s like a new adventure every time. I only do it when It makes sense really.

4. What is your favorite record store, anywhere in the world?

Records & Relics in Cork Ireland. Every time I’m performing in Ireland I make sure I spend time there.

5. Other than your own music, what is your favorite song or album of all-time? Why?

I would have to say ‘81’ by Joanna Newsom

Joanna is the most unique and creative singer I’ve heard in a long time. She has a creative beauty that is all her own. She actually creates visual lyrics that fit her voice perfectly. There’s a sense of beauty and longing that her voice and harp make together that I can feel for days after listening to her. I love her style.

6. You wake up in a seedy Berlin hotel room with no recollection of the past 96 hours. Who is your first call?

Wow, that is an awesome question. I would say I’d call no one. I would wait. I kind of like where the story is going already.
