When Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the entire Star Wars Universe for $4 billion a while back, you knew once the Mouse House’s marketing machine was fully operational, you had about as much of a chance to avoid their media onslaught as the planet Alderaan did escaping the ferocious blast of the Death Star.
In other words: Disney is blasting Star Wars wars propaganda and straight up killin’ it.
With the seventh installment, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” set to take over the known galaxy this weekend, Disney joined forces with one of its many cross-pollinators, Target, for a pop-up celebration this past weekend in downtown Los Angeles at the Staples Center.
Current projections have “The Force Awakens” debuting with anywhere between $175M-$250M in North America. The number Disney is gunning for is $208.8M, which “Jurassic World” opened with this past summer, snagging the title from Disney/Marvel’s, “The Avengers,” by just $1.4M.
