Jeff Buckley – You And I

It feels like Jeff Buckley has been gone for a million years, but this collection of early covers and demos will remind you just how much you miss the hell out of him. Sly and the Family Stone, the Smiths, Dylan, and more all give in to the haunt he inflects into everything he touches.

BEST SONG: I Know It’s Over

Cardiknox – Portrait

Fairly or unfairly, Cardiknox reminds me of Haim (I really like Haim). Shimmering, baroque pop meant to be played with the windows open; luckily it is getting warmer. On tour in the U.S. right now. Check their site for details.

BEST SONG: Wild Child

Into It. Over It. – Standards

Emo rock survivor, Evan Thomas Weiss, releases his latest, and it sounds like your Jade Tree record collection grew up, had a kid, and moved to the suburbs. Does that sound negative? It shouldn’t. It is basically a short form life story for a lot of music makers and fans (cough cough)… of a certain age. Check Into It. Over It online for tour information (dates all over the U.S., the U.K., and Europe).

RATING: 4 out of 5 whistles

BEST SONG: No EQ

Emmy the Great – Second Love

London-based Emma-Lee Moss is a one-woman chill-out tent. Is it alternafolk, singer/songwriter…? It doesn’t matter. Sink into Second Love. It’ll help you through your day, I promise. Emmy the Great is currently touring the U.K. and Europe.

RATING: 4 out of 5 whistles

BEST SONG: Algorithm
