Shark Sandwich, Vol. 4 – Speedy Album Reviews For Those On The Go

SHARK SANDWICH – ALBUM REVIEWS, APRIL 1, 2016, Vol. 4

Music reviews come in all sizes, but you’re busy and do not have time for flowery language… or sentences, really.

Spinal Tap gave the world the greatest album review of all time:

Welcome to our “Shark Sandwich” — razor-sharp reviews that sum up an album in three sentences or less.

Weezer – (White Album)

Our Haiku review!

Best Song: “Jacked Up”

Shonen Knife – Adventure

Shonen Knife have been around in some form or another since 1981. That ought to earn them a spot on every rock and roll fan’s turntable. Adventure finds Osaka, Japan’s Ramones in fine form doing what they do best. Roll your windows down, and wake up the neighborhood.

Rating: 4 out of 5 whistles

Best Song: “Jump Into The New World”

Cheap Trick – Bang Zoom Crazy… Hello

Look, I looooove Cheap Trick. Maybe BZC…H is a grower, but it isn’t grabbing me as much as, say, Rockford did 10 years ago (10 years ago!). This is to take nothing away for the perfection that is their 1970s output. This album finds the band mining the same territory, but it feels like the enthusiasm is waning a bit. Let’s hope not.

Rating: 3 out of 5 whistles

Best Song: “Heart On The Line”

Pet Shop Boys – Super

I’ve always loved “West End Girls,” but this is the first time I have taken the time to listen to a whole Pet Shop Boys album. This is a damn shame. If Super is any guide, the PSB have been shooting professional, superbly-crafted, great-sounding grooves from their fingertips since 1981.

Rating: 4 out of 5 whistles

Best Song: “The Dictator Decides”
