“Surf Report” Art Print
by Susan Schmidt

“Anyone can pick up a brush. Not everyone can transport you with it.”

We saw that quote about Australian painter Susan Schmidt’s work, immediately liked it, and then realized we wrote it.

There’s something really special about Schmidt’s painting style. It’s as if Edward Hopper put on some flip-flops, visited Down Under, and decided to paint with pop colors.

Within every painting there’s a jab of ash-can reality, followed by bright bursts of hope and possibility.

We own a Susan Schmidt original, and wanted to introduce all our readers to this fantastic painter based in Noosa Heads, Australia.

This month Susan has been kind enough to offer a limited edition Giclee reproduction of her piece “Surf Report.”

Only 250 unframed prints have been made, printed with Canon Lucia EX Pigment Inks on Sihl Masterclass Cotton Rag Paper.

If you collect affordable art, enjoy Australian culture, or look forward to your next day at the beach, this is a great signed and numbered print for your home, office, or weekend retreat.

Artist Statement:

“My belief in the connectedness of all life, responsibility for the natural environment and concern for sustainable living is the underpinning of my work.

My continuing ‘Seaburbia’ series explores the cultural memory and heritage of the quintessential Australian beach house and the value of a more simple way of life.

Composed from my own photographs, referencing memories and reminiscing retro colour I am documenting the essence of coastal living lost to time and development.

Painted in acrylic and oil, patterned, layered, sanded and glazed, recalling the erosion of matter over time and the exquisite residues of nostalgia and decay.

The works are Contemporary Realism punctuated with subtle abstract elements and surprises.”
