AWOPBAMBOOM Volume 87 – Select Songs for Fellow Travelers

From “Building A Shrine” to “In The Deep,” here’s what’s orbiting our musical universe this week.

***

Wieuca – “Building A Shrine”

An Athens, Georgia, quartet steps up to the recording booth and knocks this alt-country ball clear out of the park. Fantastic, looping tune, infused with southern charm and confidence. Crack open a beer and sit back with this one. Nice, right?

New Mystics – “Modern”

Depressing video, but this is a squall of a song, percussive as hell, a somber march with an aspirational crest. It’s a bit Bowie-ish, could only imagine how this song would sound in his hands.

Armstrongs – “If There Was Ever a Time”

From Hellcat Records: “[July 14] marks the release of ‘If There Was Ever a Time’ by Armstrongs – a group featuring Tim (Operation Ivy/Rancid/Transplants), Billie Joe (Green Day), Joey (SWMRS), and Rey Armstrong. Releasing the track via Hellcat Records, Armstrongs will donate 100 percent of proceeds to 924 Gilman: a DIY, nonprofit, all-ages venue for music, art, and community events in Berkeley, California.

“In addition, a run of flexi-disc singles (limited to just 1,000 copies) are available now via Pirates Press.”

Lo Tom – “Covered Wagon”

An “indie-rock supergroup”? Sure, why not? Here’s Lo Tom – which according to Barsuk Records features “David Bazan (Pedro the Lion), Trey Many (Velour 100, Starflyer 59), TW Walsh (Pedro the Lion, The Soft Drugs), and Jason Martin (Starflyer 59).”

MUTEMATH – “Hit Parade”

Different is always good. And this is a nice new sound. Welcome to the “Hit Parade”!

***

In The Valley Below – “Bloodhands (Oh My Fever)”

Another strong drop from In The Valley Below.

***

The Revivalists – “Wish I Knew You”

Lot of hype for this gritty song. Only one reason for it – the keyboardist. Give that dude a raise!

***

Broken Bellows – “In the Deep”

Fuzzy, catchy indie pop from two former members of Reckless Serenade. Their Card Table EP debuts on August 25.

Until next week, enjoy!
