AWOPBAMBOOM Volume 93 – Select Songs for Fellow Travelers

***

From “Lock” to “Tongue Tied,” here’s what’s orbiting our musical universe this week.

***

King Khan – “It’s Just Begun”

Twangy fun from the “master of psychedelic R&B.”

***

Fergie – “Love Is Blind” & “Love Is Pain”

Fergie gives us two takes on love: an emotional  “Love Is Pain” and a lighter, wickedly animated “Love Is Blind.”

***

Soul Blenders – “Blending Soul”

We’re big proponents of a compilation called Mid-Century Sounds. Packaged by Fervor Records, the double album features 1950s to 1970s tunes from Phoenix-based bands. We liked Mid-Century Sounds so much we even featured it in our Summer Catalogue. And now one of the album’s singles – the sax-tastic “Blending Soul” – backs a NBA 2K18 commercial. Nice.

Carla Bruni – “Crazy”

Model and former French First Lady Carla Bruni covers a country classic – with Willie Nelson! Strange, true, and kinda enchanting.

***

TRACES – “idbh.”

More than happy to spread the word about this young California singer/songwriter.

***

Pistoleros – “Did You Wake Up All Alone”

A gritty ballad from one of Arizona’s most beloved bands. To learn more about Pistoleros, click here to read our Q&A with them.

Yo No Say – “Lock”

Yo No Say, an indie group out of Baltimore, MD, has found a nice sound after swimming in rock and R&B waters. Their latest song “Lock” — off their Inner EP — is a snappy synth-backed track, perfect for an after-work drink or a montage in an 80s feel-good flick.

The Wild Now – “Tongue Tied”

Smooth and sax-y, the Wild Now’s latest song will have you swaying along in no time.

Until next week, enjoy!
