We Love a Parade – Mardi Gras, New Orleans, LA, 2016

***

A week of sunny skies and cool temperatures greeted New Orleans, Louisiana, and its Mardi Gras parades.

After a year’s worth of preparations, magnificent floats and costumed revelers filled the streets as parade-goers gathered from near and far.

For some spectators it was their first celebration in the Big Easy; for others, it was their annual ritual of costume-making and float-building to realize this unique celebration of Carnival.

These photographs document the sights and sounds of Bal Masque, super parades and marching processions leading up to Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.
