NewsWhistle was live at the 2019 US Open tennis tournament, where players and fans experienced fourteen days of fun and forehands in Flushing Meadows, Queens.
This year’s competition ran from August 26th until September 8th.

DAY NINE – 2019 US OPEN DIARY
THE SLAMMIN’ SUMMARY
Today marked the start of the 2019 US Open quarterfinals, and with it four great matches of tennis.

For the men, Russian five-seed Daniil Medvedev (pictured above) faced off against Swiss twenty-three seed Stan Wawrinka, and Swiss three-seed Roger Federer matched up against Grigor Dimitrov.
Winning in four sets today, Medvedev became the youngest US Open finalist (at age 23) since Novak Djokovic in 2010.
During the night session, Federer lost in a fifth-set heartbreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Medvedev now faces Dmitrov in Friday’s semi-final match-up.

For the women, Ukrainian fifth-seed Elina Svitolina played British sixteenth-seed Johanna Konta, and American eight-seed Serena Williams (pictured above) faced off against Chinese eighteenth-seed Qiang Wang.
Winning a two set match against Konta, Svitolina became the first Ukrainian women to reach the semifinals of the US Open.
In a two set match, Williams defeated Wang. In this 44 minute win, Williams claimed her 100th career victory at the US Open.
