A Postcard From St. Paul

***

Greetings from the war zone. Two of them actually. I’m directly between the two scenes of destruction in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Every building burned, every street corner where the protests are taking place, are part of my life. Everything I seen on TV news I recognize.

My grocery store gone, my car repair shop damaged, it’s all so heartbreaking. I also, sadly, understand the rage and can’t move past the sickness of that video. I’ve had my incidents with Minneapolis police and what you see in that video is an attitude that permeates the force.

I think I’m suffering from some mild smoke inhalation now. Smoke rising in both directions from my house. I’m about a mile and a half from the fires in Minneapolis and a little over two in St. Paul. Sounds of sirens continuously and helicopters overheard.

Unlike some I still have power and food in the refrigerator. Many stores are boarded up. Random gas stations, not even close to the protests, have been burned. Liquor stores looted. National Guard has hit the streets which makes me feel better. Don’t feel safe around the police.

I biked down to the scene this morning and took some pictures. Here they are.
