Hong Kong Comic Con - 2019 - A Review

Hong Kong’s annual comic convention — Ani-Com & Games HK (ACGHK) — has always been a hit-or-miss affair, but there wasn’t much wrong with this year’s version. In fact, it was the best one we’ve attended.

We’re waiting for statistics – but we wouldn’t be surprised if the 21st edition of ACGHK broke its own records for attendance and visitor spend.

The convention has always been geared to promoting and selling products, but the floorplan was nicely spaced this year — allowing for good crowd flow — and there was a better selection of products, from multinational brands to up-and-coming illustrators.

Our favorite part of ACGHK — which ran from July 26 to July 30 in Wan Chai — centered around Hong Kong-based artists (whose drawings we collect).

Visitors in the BOAT (Both of the ART & TOYS Fair) and Hong Kong Comics & Animation Federation sections were able to meet local talents (including Knoa Chung, Lam Pei, Winson Ma, and Clayton Chau of Lolo HoiHoi), purchase a variety of goods, and even score a free sketch like we did at the signature booth, if lucky.

Additionally, ticketholders could go up to the third floor of the convention center to visit the E-Sports & Music Festival. There, people interacted with the latest virtual reality, sim driving, drone racing, and eSports technologies.
