Batman v Superman:
Battle of the Breakfast Cereals

It used to be when a studio prepared to unleash a blockbuster movie–in this case, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” on March 25–at the very least, they had to occupy a major merch presence in the video game section and the action figure aisle of super stores. Apparently though, that’s not enough anymore, as the true mark of an epic Hollywood production these days must boldly go…to the cereal aisle.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a couple of Lucky Charms knock offs on shelves right now, as did last summer’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise  to see “Batman v Superman” join the breakfast brigade.

That said, DC’s dynamic-duo is such an event that one cereal just wouldn’t suffice. Plus, the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel are simply too infuriated with each other to share a box–so they each get their own, with two very unique flavors. Holy crispy crunchies, Batman!

SPOILER ALERT! In fact, judging by the flavors, one can already pick a clear winner. Superman’s cereal is Caramel Crunch in the shape of his infamous logo, while Batman’s bats boast the “natural flavor” of…Chocolate Strawberry?!? Um…where exactly does that exist naturally? A Robbins Brothers engagement ring store?

While it remains to be seen who will win the ultimate rubber-suited matchup on the big screen, in the battle of the breakfast cereals it’s pretty obvious that Superman wins this round. It’s a no-contest, really.

While the real Superman would probably opt for Man of Steel Cut Oatmeal, at least both cereals boast “no artificial flavors or colors from artificial sources,” “no high fructose corn syrup,” and “whole grain as our first ingredient.” Funny, I thought it was sugar.

Whether you’re sold on it or not, Warner’s “Batman v Superman” is one of the most anticipated films of 2016, and with its imminent arrival in late March, rollout of the mass merchandising is just beginning to fire on all cylinders.
