BATTLE OF THE BREAKFAST BANDS – WHERE THERE ARE NO RULES. ONLY TWO BANDS. AND BREAKFAST.
***
What I ate: Two slices sourdough toast w/ butter, cereal, one orange (sliced), three cups black coffee
Time: 7:34 a.m.
Location: My kitchen, Midwest, USA, with my wife and two kids
Anything out of ordinary: Not really, except my kid dances to Space Oddity
***
Facing off: David Bowie – “Space Oddity” vs. Radiohead – “Karma Police”
Reason for choosing: Wanted to try kind of an old vs. new kinda thing, classic vs. indie
Winner: Bowie
Why: Within seconds my one-year-old smiled and started dancing in her highchair to to “Space Oddity.” Kinda strange, right? But this made Bowie the clear winner. Yorkie never stood a chance. Perhaps another Radiohead track would have been a better challenge. But it’s “Karma Police,” a great song . . . it’s just that it fell flat with toast. My wife declared my choices “boring at breakfast,” and as much as I’d like to disagree, I can’t. Next time she wants more upbeat, which is why she made me play Bowie’s “Modern Love.” Soon enough, we were all dancing.
