BATTLE OF THE BREAKFAST BANDS – WHERE THERE ARE NO RULES. ONLY TWO BANDS. AND BREAKFAST.
Time: 8:16 a.m.
Location: My kitchen, Midwest, USA, with my two kids.
Anything out of the ordinary?: My wife left for an early morning yoga class which left daddy in charge of breakfast and DJ-ing at the same time. Harder then it sounds.
What I ate: Waffles, strawberries, four cups black coffee
Facing Off: KC and the Sunshine Band’s “I’m your Boogie Man” vs. Chic’s “Everybody Dance”
Band Selection Rationale: I’d love to say the two songs were chosen by me, but they weren’t. As a solo parent for the morning, I was juggling the tasks of cooking breakfast and DJ-ing whilst caving to the demands of two screaming girls, Big Daughter and Little Daughter.
Big Daughter was ultra-bossy: “Daddy, there’s not enough whipped cream on my waffle. I need more orange juice. Get me a napkin.” Little Daughter kept screaming. “Daddy, she needs more whipped cream, too,” said Big Daughter, interpreting.
How is a dad supposed to DJ under these conditions? The solution: I turned on Sirius XM and let the Studio 54 Radio decide our breakfast battle fate.
Winner: Battle 4 goes to Chic!
Why: Dancing, dancing, dancing.
Once we got past the screaming, the demands, and the whipped cream, Everybody Dance, well, made everybody dance.
A Sunday morning Daddy Daughter Disco Dancefest. What can be better than that?
Um, maybe liquid smoke, a hottie model and a disco ball? — Ed.
