Band Selection Rationale:

This past weekend marked my 12th wedding anniversary.

Twelve years of blissful chaos.  Seriously though, “in good times and in bad” is all true but I wouldn’t trade it.

We have two beautiful, healthy (crazy) daughters. And I am still way into her.  I often joke around and call her my M.I.LF., she plays along and acts flattered.  She’s way cool.

So why did I pick songs by Teenage Bottlerocket and AC/DC?

I stumbled upon a story that this weekend was the 35th anniversary of AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ release.  (Man, talk about “in good times and in bad”, the band had just lost lead singer Bon Scott who had died from excessive drinking.)

For AC/DC, it was not “’til death do us part.” They kept the Rock ‘n’ Roll Train going and recorded “Back in Black” with Brian Johnson, which went on to become their biggest selling record and one of the best of all time.

Teenage Bottlerocket have a lot of stellar sappy songs about girls.  I thought why not play one for my wife.

Facing Off:  Teenage Bottlerocket’s “So Cool” vs. AC/DC’s “Back in Black”

***

What I ate:  1 egg “over easy”; 1 piece sourdough toast; strawberries; 3 cups black coffee

(And, no, there was not breakfast in bed for the occasion.  Food in your bed?  I’ll never understand it.)

Teenage Bottlerocket, “So Cool”

AC/DC, “Back In Black”

Winner: Teenage Bottlerocket’s “So Cool”

Why:

Every morning for me is the proverbial “back in black”.  I love coffee, black coffee, a lot of it.

If you’ve read this feature before you know black coffee is a staple for me.

So I thought, why not choose the title track while enjoying my coffee. “Back in Black” does go well w/ breakfast for sure.

The album is no doubt a staple in any music collection, it’s a classic.

It’s a rock record but I think it’s a genre uniter; you could lean country, pop, hip-hop, punk… in all cases, chances are you love those AC/DC songs.

However, my winner this morning goes to “So Cool”, Teenage Bottlerocket.

As I said I think my wife is way cool and I played this song for her, she thought it was sweet.

Plus, one caveat here is writer’s bias, TBR is one of may favorite bands.  Classic record or not, not sure AC/DC had a chance here.

And honestly, it made my breakfast taste better.  It’s such a catchy, happy song that it’s not a bad way to start the day and celebrate w/ my gal.
