Happy Birthday, The Dinah!
The largest all-girl music festival – celebrating lesbian, queer and female empowerment – is celebrating the big 3-0 this year.
The ultra-fun fete, taking place in Palm Springs, California, from April 1 to 5, is filled with comedy shows, pool parties, night parties, and concerts.
Game show host Alex Trebek took notice of the event in December when he offered the following answer on Jeopardy: “Natasha Bedingfield and Pat Benatar have headlined the female-friendly Palm Springs festival named for this late TV star.”
Other past Dinah performers have included Bebe Rexha, Kiana Lede, Daya, Snow Tha Product, Jessie Reyes, Tegan and Sara, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Meghan Trainor, Iggy Azalea, Eve, Chaka Khan, Salt ‘N Pepa, Christina Perri, and Lizzo.
This year, party-goers will move to the beats provided by former Fifth Harmony muse Ally Brooke, hip-hop sensation Jozzy, R&B/Soul pioneer SWSH, neo-soul vocalist Umi, soul songstress Sophia Messa, rapper Saweetie, R&B group Lion Babe, and up-and-comer Yung Baby Tate (daughter of Arrested Development’s Dionne Farris).
Those looking for a laugh can enjoy the comic stylings of Dana Goldberg, Gina Yashere, and Dinah Leffert.
And for extra, guests can even see iconic indie film director John Waters perform his one-man show live.
Said Waters: “As a proud ‘lezbro’ who’s never been scared of women smarter than me, I’m happy to be the comic relief in a sea of partying ‘all-girl’ music festival fans. Thanks to The Dinah, I will finally be a true outsider!”
