Hey there, old friend!
Malena Cadiz (one of our most favorite folk singers) has returned with a new single called “Hey There, Oblivion.”
Malena — who co-wrote the song with producer Hal Cragin (Iggy Pop, Joni Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright)– calls her latest tune “a love song for uncertain times, about holding close what’s most dear when things fall apart.”
Below, we learn more about Malena and discover some of her Favorite Things.

1. FAVORITE MOVIE
I’ve been so rocked by this year (as we all have) that I’ve mainly been watching romantic comedies and super-hero movies, plus “Broad City” and “Schitt’s Creek” on repeat. But from when I was a more cultured movie-watcher, I love Mood Indigo by Michel Gondry and The Long Goodbye by Robert Altman. I love how they’re both immersive worlds that transport you.

2. FAVORITE BOOK
Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, I come back to this book every time I’m writing a record. I love the world he creates and the magical realism of it. Mrs Dalloway for her incredible way of cutting to the core of what it is to be human, how we age and hold memory.

3. A PLACE YOU WANT TO VISIT
Travel is the one thing I miss most since we’ve started lockdown. I’d love to go to Japan, I’m so enthralled by the culture, I studied a little Japanese theater in college and was so mesmerized by it. And the gardens!

4. FAVORITE OUTFIT
I have a closet full of flowy dresses and this is one of my favorites, it’s a patchwork vintage dress by GRAU that I got at Equator Antiques in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, a long time ago.
