Photo Essay – The 2019 New York City Veterans Day Parade

***

The 101st anniversary of the first World War Armistice, the 75th anniversary of the second World War’s ending, this year’s New York City’s Veterans Day Parade began with protest of a president’s attendance, the first ever.

The 11 am opening ceremony, always inclusive, always non-partisan, non-political  was anything but.  Madison Park secured by garbage trucks end-to-end, a fitting visual for a Commander-in-Chief, a service dodger.

Service women and men lined up on a sunny morning, await the frozen zones as the presidential motorcade departs, ready to march up Fifth Avenue, their annual memorial remembrance to the many who’s ultimate sacrifice, made,  a stance against fascist repression, a stance for a country facing it’s most trying times, these United States in 2019.
