Dear Walti,
I just spent a week skiing in one of my favourite areas in the world— a lost place in the Italian Dolomites known as Val Gardena. I was based in Ortisei where the largest population of the Ladin people preserve their ancient language in five isolated valleys.

Daunting Sassolungo 1000 meter north face overpowers the landscape.
