NAME: Zoe Lau

PROFESSION: Actress

HOMETOWN: Hong Kong

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE: Chic with a hint of elegance

***

1. How long have you been a professional actor? And what is your first memory of acting or performing?

I have been professionally acting for more than four years. My very first acting experience was being Sleeping Beauty in my kindergarten graduation when I was around  five years old.

2. Who has given the best performance on screen or stage in the last five to ten years? And who has given the worst performance?

I’ll pick something that I have watched this year – I really enjoyed Eddie Redmayne’s performance in The Danish Girl and no one really stands out with the worst performance, but one thing that bugs me is when actors are cast for a specific ethnicity when they do not fit and speaking in a language that are not authentic.

3. What’s the best piece of business or acting advice you’ve heard? And do you follow it?

One piece of advice that I was told and still follow is “once you are on stage, don’t overthink and let whatever you have rehearsed work its magic.”

4. What is your favorite place to shop, anywhere in the world, and why?

Japan! Harajuku and Shibuya 109 cause they have the up-to-date trends.

5. What music, movie, book, or magazine gets you ready for a big performance?

I like listening to soft emotional music to get ready.

***

6. What is the question a person should ask you, and how would you answer?

“How did I get to where I am right now?”

Thankfully, I have very loving and understanding parents who always support me in every decision I make. I’ll be honest, it’s not easy and you have to keep working hard and keep searching for opportunities. Perseverance is key and stay true to your work and professionalism and everything will follow.

7. If you can have one photographer shoot your portrait, who would that be and why?

JR. He captures “life” in his photos and all his work has meaningful stories behind them.
