Reboot has become a fairly dirty word in Hollywood, and there’s no studio more responsible for trying to cash in on retro shenanigans than Sony.
LEGO Batman Movie, 50 Shades Darker and John Wick: Chapter 2 take on the new box office incumbents – Fist Fight, A Cure for Wellness and The Great Wall.
With “The LEGO Batman Movie,” expected to lead the box office brigade, followed by the continuing sagas of “Fifty Shades Darker” and “John Wick: Chapter 2,” the movie biz seemingly has all the demographics covered.
Hollywood usually opts for counterprogramming on Super Bowl weekend, and that’s no different this year with Paramount’s trilogy capper, “Rings,” and STX’s long-delayed sci-fi, teen romance “The Space Between Us.”
This weekend sees cinemas stuffed with four new wide releases including Disney’s “Moana,” Paramount’s “Allied,” Broad Green Pictures’ “Bad Santa 2” and Fox’s “Rules Don’t Apply.”
